Trade Practices Compliance

PRINCIPLE

Dental Training

Entry to training as a dentist is controlled by government and the universities and is determined by entry qualification. Specialist post-graduate training is also determined by the Universities.

Dental Registration

Dentists depending on their role, are registered by Dental Council and IDA has no control over whether or not they participate in the dental workforce.

Fee Setting

IDA neither sets nor maintains a fee schedule. The responsibility for setting of fees rests with the individual dental clinic. IDA may advise members for establishment of their fees, including the examination of various benchmarks. However, at all times, it is made quite clear that the fees set by a practice are for that practice alone to determine.

Ethics

IDA Principles of Ethical Dental Practice define patterns of behaviour and clinical practice that are designed to ensure sound dental care for the community.

Membership

IDA has ensured that its membership is subject to the basic requirement that the person is a registered dentist,. Membership is not restricted, declined or suspended for any reason other than those associated with the maintenance of high professional standards and in the interest of public health and safety.

Applicants accepting membership of the IDA must agree to abide by IDA’s rules and By-Laws.

All IDA members must also be members of their Branch.
